WELCOME

Located 30 minutes north of Knoxville, Norris Academy offers comprehensive, holistic services to residents with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other Neurodevelopmental diagnoses. Residents in our program typically have co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses and neurodevelopmental diagnoses that have caused distress at home, at school or in the community. These mental health needs and the co-occurring developmental diagnoses can result in needs that exceed the ability of the family or community to handle. At Norris Academy, our experienced team of helping professionals provides psychiatric, clinical and educational services that assess the functionality of risky behaviors, develop plans to support behavioral change and work collaboratively with families, community service providers and schools to safely and effectively transition residents back into their communities.

Our Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) at Norris Academy is licensed for 42 beds to support residents with special needs and most of our residents have the opportunity to reside in their own room. Our therapeutic residential staff receives on-going training and supervision across different areas of medical and mental health topics to assist in best helping the residents and families that we serve. Our team of Master’s-level clinical staff works hard to tailor each resident’s treatment to create interventions that will meet their unique needs.

Therapeutic day school program

In addition to our psychiatric residential treatment program, Kingston Academy also supports our surrounding school systems through our Therapeutic Day School program. The Therapeutic Day School seeks to offer support to children and youth who are struggling with psychiatric and behavioral health needs at school, at home and in the community but who do not need residential-based care. The Day School services students from 5-17 years old and receives referrals from local school
districts. Our Day School students are able to receive the same quality education as our residents and the educational professionals at Kingston Academy partner with Day School students’ home districts to facilitate both credit maintenance and retrieval.

Therapeutic Day School students are able to receive treatment around their behavioral health needs through therapeutic interventions by our clinical and group living professionals around campus. Students may either receive outpatient treatment at the program, in the form of one individual therapy session and one family session per week, or maintain their established outpatient providers to ensure that the youth’s needs are put first and foremost.
